Mary and Mary

Mary and Mary cried through that long, hellish night
At last day was dawning, the grey dissolved in the light
They ran to the grave.

…where they were shocked by an angel
who shook the ground with his news
His face sparked like lightning, flashing & blinding
He said, Don’t be afraid:

Jesus lives, he lives – let his life spark life in you
Let what is cold in you be warmed anew
He lives, he lives.

Mary and Mary, still seeing spots from that light
Their grief in crazy disorder – could that angel be right?
He said, Don’t be afraid:

Jesus lives, he lives – let his life spark life in you
Let what is cold in you be warmed anew
He lives, he lives.

So Mary and Mary, their blood still rushing with fright
Looked in the tomb and saw nothing – could the dead rise to life?
They ran back to town –

And who had walked out to meet them
but their Lord who’d been dead
They’d seen his cold body, and here he was in warm flesh
He said, Don’t be afraid:

I live, I live – let my life spark life in you
Let what is cold in you be warmed anew

Jesus lives, he lives – let his life spark life in you
Let what is cold in you be warmed anew
He lives, he lives.

Based on Matthew 28.
